The Lit Bar

The only independent bookstore in the Bronx, The Lit Bar is owned and operated by Bronx native Noelle Santos. She recognized that the Bronx was severely underserved and decided to open a store that was sustainable, accessible, and served the needs of the unique and diverse community. Sister’s Uptown Bookstore

Wed, Fri, Sat 1-5 pm

1942 Amsterdam Avenue 

Owned and operated by mother-daughter duo Janifer and Kori, Sister’s Uptown Bookstore prides itself on being more than a bookstore; it is a community resource. They provide past and present works from African-American authors as well as a thoughtfully curated selection from other writers. Available to shop in-store and online. 


McNally Jackson Books

An Independent bookstore chain located in New York City, McNally Jackson Books was founded by Sarah McNally, the daughter of McNally Robinson Booksellers chain founders in Canada. This chain has four locations throughout the city, predominantly in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Available to shop in-store and online.

Revolution Books

Tue, Thur, Sat, Sun 2-7 pm

437 Malcolm X Blvd (at 132nd St) 

Located in Harlem, Revolution Books is an indie bookstore that caters to patrons seeking books on revolutionary thought on a variety of subjects. With a welcoming atmosphere, Revolutionary Books is a judgment-free zone where all are welcome to come and browse the shelves. Available to shop in-store and online.

An independent bookstore chain with locations in Brooklyn and Newark, WORD offers a wide selection of books and has a robust calendar of events every month. Available to shop in-store and online.
